Toro and the National Guard

From left to right: Bill Winks, Julia Toro, Arthur Velez, Grant Littler, Andy Catlin, and Griffin Drutchas

In August 06', Andy Catlin locked himself in the Village Severn Studio with boxes of instruments and recorded what would become the instrumental track for "I'm Just Waiting (for My Baby to Walk Through the Door). The seven-minute cosmic country epic was just one of a handful of songs that Catlin had been preparing for a female-fronted country band. Through his girlfriend, Catlin was introduced to the mitten-knitting, cello-playing Julia Toro. A few days after their introduction, Toro laid down the vocal for "I'm Just Waiting". Over the next four months, they continued to record songs for their debut album Plum with help from drummer mt neverest, bassists Griffin Drutchas and Phil Gray, and songwriter William G. Kaiser.
In May of 2008, Toro and the National Guard will released their second album At the Grand Inn. The album was recorded live in one weekend at 812 Oak St. in Kalamazoo, MI. The album features new additions Arthur Velez on drums and Bill Winks on pedal steel along with Julia Toro, William G. Kaiser, Griffin Drutchas and Andy Catlin.
